Nikki was destined to write and sing music. Having been an avid reader and writer since childhood, words came easily to her and as a small child her favorite pastime was to listen to her parent’s album collection; often singing along to bands like The Beatles, Janis Joplin, and Fleetwood Mac.
Her favorite singer was Stevie Nicks and she often tried to imitate her; for example in grade school she sang ‘Dreams’ for show and tell in 2nd grade much to the shock and confusion of her teacher who had no idea who this ‘Fleetwood Mac’ was. Hours were spent listening to the albums and she would let her imagination get lost in the art, lyrics and music- dreaming of being like the rock and roll stars.
As a small child she would sit on the monitors of her Uncle Rick’s band, Sherwood watching him play drums in her parent’s garage, and it was then that she caught the performing bug. She sang in church choir during childhood and adolescence and was heavily involved in high school chorus and swing choir.
Guitar playing came later during college when she heard the Indigo Girls playing on David Letterman. She went out immediately and bought a guitar and took lessons. Over the years there were stints playing covers in small gigs at coffee shops, street corners bars and backyards with friends and she gradually began to write and play her own songs.
Her first CD release: Going My Own Way is a culmination of songs demonstrates pictures in time & tapestries of emotion that everyone can related to on some level. They are stories of pain, love, regret, strength and joy…some autobiographical, some fiction but all of them real and honest.
