“I find so much pleasure in sitting at the Piano to figure stuff out, ride the beat of a fresh instrumental, guitar/bass line, or whatever it is.  I get so excited and the words and melodies just come out.  It makes sense and it makes me smile” Says the 27 year old singer/songwriter about her methodology behind her and her music.

This Zimbabwean born, Canadian-bred vocalist encompasses several genre’s, while displaying vocals reminiscent of the likes of Sade and Corrine Bailey Rae to name a few. Her debut album Finding Under Me, not only showcases the skills of a gifted lyricist but also highlights an unforgettable journey. As a child, she grew up listening to the music that her father played around the house, which included the likes of Joan Armatrading, Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder . As she grew older her tastes developed into more contemporary styles and singers like Michael and Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and The Dixie Chicks began to shape her artistic persona. From there her musical influences started to round themselves out.

Her journey to music was always the inevitable ultimate goal, but having always identified herself as a gymnast then dancer/cheerleader then acrobat, she found it difficult to sometimes say to people, ”Hey I can write and sing too.” Growing up the second eldest of five she always sang in choirs from a young age and was also a competitive gymnast for many years. “I used to train 32 hours a week at one point with Wednesday being  my only day off from Gymnastics.  Working hard and dedicating myself to a goal was something I became accustomed to from a very young age.”  After an injury ended her chances at any Olympic shot she had to find a new refuge.

“I remember being so depressed and lost for a number of years after gymnastics ended.  Having spare time to go to movies or the mall was just so foreign to me.  My father put me in track & field for a bit to keep me occupied but, that was very short lived. When I got my first car a friend dragged me to a local audition to dance in a Hip/Hop show and it was there I found my element once again.  I enjoyed being busy again and I also enjoyed rehearsing and practicing three to four times a week”

She goes on to say how she ended up briefly working as a Cheerleader for her local CFL and Lacrosse team for 2 seasons. It was at this point she started being more vocal about her singing ability. This landed her the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a few games, and out of this the success continued to come.  She was offered a job as an acrobat for Princess Cruises.  She joined her first ship in 2002 and stayed with them until late 2004.  After returning home she finished her studies at Mount Royal University and before Graduation moved to London, England in search of a new path possibly with music. “When I look back, moving to London was the best and worst thing I could have done for myself.”  She explains how she was able to explore herself as an artist and dancer by working in music videos for The Prodigy and doing commercials.  She also acted in a student Indie film playing an American bartender.  Things were going great but, she wanted to write and sing for a living.  During this frustrating time she met a young man at a wedding and they quickly became an item. “I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with him but, my visa for the UK was going to expire and I had to make a choice. Stay or leave.

Things quickly spiraled downhill after he didn''t come to see her after a near death experience.  She soon realized things were over and he now had a new girlfriend and had moved on with his life. "I was left to pick up the pieces of my heart and tried to mend it as best I could."  The Singer started writing the project in the Spring of 2007 after she met Producer Mike Garces through a recording session with her cousin Nicole Checkley.  Shortly after meeting the two started working on what would become the album, "Finding Under Me".  The emotional ups and downs endured during the writing and recording process brought out heart felt lyrics and melodies such as the ones found in "Mirror" and "How Many Times".  An experience the singer had with a homeless man who lived under a bridge at Clapham Junction Station sparked the inspiration behind "The Man". “ I used to chat with him all the time and  his story was so compelling to me.  The moment I heard the track I knew exactly what I was going to write about.  The mysterious haunting vibe of the keys and the drive of the bass brought out those lyrics in a instant and supported the feeling and message I wanted to convey.”

After tediously working on the album for two and a half years she was not happy with the overall sound of the album.  In December of 2009, she decided to go back and re-record the entire album.  When it came time to mix and master the album she made sure she was there every step of the way. “I remember being there three to four days in a row and sitting through sessions that lasted eight to nine hours being fully involved for every minute of it.”  Late 2010 marked the first mastered print of the album but, the singer was not happy with the audio quality of the mastered version.  At this point she decided to outsource the album mastering.  By making this decision she was finally able to get the sound she was looking for from the beginning and the album was now complete.

April 2011, marks the official release of the Independent debut album, "Finding Under Me".  Its first single, “Sweet Heart” is a bubbly vocally painted record with the ability to put a smile on anyones'' face and move many hearts to remember what it feels like to be loved.  “I have truly poured so much of my life into the 14 records that made the cut for this album. I am hoping that my music can not only be a voice for good and hard times but, also an example that if you work hard and dedicate yourself you will succeed at reaching your goals.”
