A note from the artist/author:

I was raised in a middle-class, Jewish, household. After my Bar Mitzvah, like many Jews, I promptly lost my way spiritually and eventually considered myself an agnostic cultural Jew. I earned a philosophy degree (focusing on an aspect of philosophy of religion -- free will and determinism), and later earned a law degree from Harvard Law School.

I wandered in the spiritual wilderness for decades. I wanted to believe in God but lacked faith. I never prayed. When a born again Christian friend struggled with divorce, I resolved to pray on her behalf and to tell her I did so – not because I thought God would intervene. I didn’t. But simply because I knew my friend would take comfort from knowing I had prayed for her.

I tried to pray to God as she knew Him – Jesus – but couldn’t. My cultural upbringing remained too strong. So I prayed to the God of Abraham directly and told my friend. Expecting chastisement, I received only gratitude and appreciation. I prayed for her two more times, without mentioning it to her (though I am not sure why even to this day).

Then one night, while listening to music, I began "experienced" God in a way I had neither sought out nor thought possible. The experience is virtually impossible to describe . . . but I will try. Without knowing or realizing it (and with the "benefit" of "reason"), I had turned my life experiences into brick-like defenses against God. But with each new brick, God raised His Voice just a bit -- so He would remain accessible to me if I chose. Somehow, self-less prayer must have created a crack in the wall of my defenses, which God’s Voice promptly shattered. The experience left me weeping and trembling and pleading for Him to turn the Volume down. “Please God,” I begged, “if You would just whisper, I will hear.” Then He whispered. Soon, I hungered to read God’s Word and devoured whatever He put in my path. God led me to questions and answers I had never even considered, and helped me understand answers to questions that had previously kept me from Him. I burned with the need to write The Quiet Shepherd: Dancing in the Footsteps of the Lord, which included the creation of Michael''s Psalms. The intense religious experience lasted for months, and remains much too personal to relay in full here. Still, the description above captures the essence of what would ultimately result in Michael''s Psalms and The Quiet Shepherd.

There are five psalms total, each meant to reflect a different perspective: Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Interfaith, with the last track being a bonus track to the Lord out of appreciation for His Presence in my life. None of the songs are meant to be "Jewish" or "Christian" or "Muslim," but are meant to reflect some aspect of these faiths that have become so near and dear to me. The lyrics to the first four psalms (and audio) are part of the larger work, "The Quiet Shepherd: Dancing in the Footsteps of the Lord."

Written from the perspective of the Archangel Michael, The Quiet Shepherd is contemporary interfaith Kabbalah unplugged. It reflects the culmination of the profound and life changing religious experience touched on above, and which -- to my great disappointment -- I have never experienced since. In the end, I was left with the abiding belief that all of us who worship the God of Abraham -- Jewish, Christian and Muslim alike -- should celebrate Word of God revealed to our ancestors, rejoice in the Word of God revealed to others, and dance in the footsteps of the Lord by working together for the common good.

Instead, so much harm has come from focusing on our differences. We squabble over different guidance received from our Lord, as if our Father cannot possibly have given different guidance to His very different Children. Is it hard to fathom that a father might tell his rail-thin child to always clean her plate and eat seconds, even as that same father tells his morbidly obese son to always leave food on his plate and never eat seconds? That does not mean that each should follow the advice given a sibling, but as children grow and change they can often benefit from the advice their father gave a sibling. Should it be any different with Our Father and His Children?

So what can you learn from The Quiet Shepherd? Among other things:

· A definitive answer to the question: why did God prevent Moses from entering the Promised Land? The answer is so evident, once revealed, and the revelation is so important now, at this time, that it may just renew your faith in God’s ability to hide answers in plain sight for Millennia . . . until needed most;

· The lost twelve letter Name of God, including a proof text for the pronunciation of the tetragrammaton (YHVH), as well as pronunciation of the tetragrammaton in Michael’s Psalm 1 (an original included psalm/song);

· A unique perspective on angelology, the Archangel Michael’s, including a description of the Fall of Satan from Michael’sWord ;

· A better understanding of God, including a unique description of how God parents His Children;

· The meaning of Creation and our role in God’s Plan;

· A road-map for inter-faith co-operation; and

· Religion/Meta-religion.

I miss the closeness to God that I felt during the turn of the Millennia, while writing The Quiet Shepherd and writing/performing Michael''s Psalms. But I am pleased to share its result with you.

The Quiet Shepherd: Dancing in the Footsteps of the Lord (including Michael''s Psalms) may help you rediscover your faith, just as it daily renews mine. Looking back, I can see God’s Hand guiding my life experiences, unseen, so that I could one day create The Quiet Shepherd . . . and I am awed. I am also humbled because I am completely unworthy of such an honor, and know that I could not have created The Quiet Shepherd or Michael''s Psalms without divine guidance. I pray that The Quiet Shepherd and Michael''s Psalms help people connect with the Lord, renews their ancestral faith and helps them better appreciate the faiths of others who worship the God of Abraham.
