Details:
Life for Marqui has been synonymous with a ball on a tennis court. There has been constant back and forth changes in his life stemming from his parents on both coasts of the United States from their military backgrounds. HIs mother hailing from Los Angeles, CA and father from NYC by way of Aruba. Culturally, there was much to gain from growing up in both places simultaneously. Primarily, Marqui had to have a unique understanding of many types of people and their practices to create fruitful relationships, especially amongst his peers.

"I was always the new kid on the block even if it was returning home, despite where home was at the time. I would definitely say I was blessed by God by having my parents separate at such a young age because the places I saw and the people I''ve met along the way would not have happened if life was conventional. Its a testament that the Lord can make any crooked path straight."

In the midst of living in both Los Angeles and New York City, Hip Hop music was just tapping into its peak potential in the early to mid 90''s. Sounds of the West Coast Gangsta Rap/G-funk movement blended styles of classic soul and funk music. The East Coast Hip Hop sound provided Gritty drums and expressive lyrical content from their artists.

"I loved my musical experience because I was able to indulge in both places prior to media outlets like youtube. The only thing that kept you immersed in the culture was actually being there."

"Internalizing everything, I learned along my path I was always trying to make life better around me. The areas I grew up in on both coasts were plagued with violence, drugs, and things that did not promote human development as a whole. I knew music to be a universal language and my aim is to have humans understand besides what we see on the outside, that we are all one people. These ideas transcend into my music. I take music very seriously because I have the ability to directly affect the world around me. All I want for all people is love and peace."

Having musical influences such as the Isley Brothers, Bob Marley, along with rapper Nas, Marqui has created music that is fit for all generations to listen to and to associate with. Using words that have an effect without the negativity now seen in mainstream rap music, his lyrics bring about an energetic and nostalgic feeling.

"As a child, the generations before me were able to share their music with me. What I noticed in todays age of music, the ability of sharing has ceased. What motivates me moving forward with my projects is bridging the gap between young and old, reaching out to all genres eliminating labels, allowing music to be just music."
