This project began as a result of many lifetime situations...
It has been a rough road that included an inner ear illness that I had to recover from. Without writing a book at this point, I can tell you that these difficult times taught me that there is hope, even in the darkest hours, shadows, or situations.

Fortunately I had the encouragement of my family, my friends, and my husband, to hold on and follow my dream. He is a firefighter and a true hero.

This led to meeting Deborah Shulman through my very favorite male vocalist and buddy, Andy Husmann. He has told me for years that I would love working with her. What a pal!

Deborah suggested that I go into the wonderful world of cabaret and should eventually put together some recordings of songs from the show. Her vision and direction became my focus. Deborah and her husband Rick, were encouraging me every step of the way! (Thank you both!) She introduced me to Ted Howe and he beautifully arranged “Rhode Island is Famous for You.” He is an amazing musician, so professional, kind, and someone I respect immensely.
Soon after, Deborah introduced me to three musicians who were also a dream to work with! Jeff Colella on piano, Chris Colangelo on Bass, and Rod Harbour on the drums. They are all creative, professional, kind, funny, and brilliant! Hearing them play and working along side of them was surreal… A dream.

Jeff Colella arranged seven of the songs in this project and several others that I will use on future recordings. His arrangements are magical and gave this project the dreamy, whimsical feeling that I wanted to create. He knew just what would be the right sound and wanted to put some little surprises into the songs, for example the little “rap” segment in “Too Darn Hot.” Thank you so very much, Jeff from Massachusetts…

To sum up the experience I have as I work with these creative beings, I have to say… Deborah, Jeff, Chris, Rod, and Scott Frasier- the engineer extraordinaire - (love your studio and what you believe in)… You are all just too darn hot!

A quick description of the tunes on this project and a few notes of the inspiration for the song choices…

Too Darn Hot is a song that I have loved for many years. It was in my show when I sang at Opryland U.S.A. in Nashville, Tennessee. Opryland doesn’t exist anymore but the talent in that park, incredible! It was an experience that I will never forget and treasure. I have loved Cole Porter ever since. In my act, we updated the tune, and was choreographed by one of my very favorite people, Janet Miller. She is a marvelous director and choreographer and does it all. Most of all, she is a lovely person and friend. Thank you, Janet!

Rhode Island is Famous for You was chosen because Deborah and I are fans of the late Nancy Lamott. This song had the charm and humor that I enjoy and I knew right away that it was the perfect choice for the project

Does Anybody Here Love Me was a little jewel that was written just after Marilyn Monroe died. It is a very honest song with lyrics that touch the center of your soul. Billy Barnes really captured the essence of a person who desires unconditional love and acceptance. I have always been a Marilyn fan and thought it had a beautiful story and lesson attached to the song.

My Heart Belongs to Daddy was fun to record and I love this version. It was also a song that Marilyn sang and Cole Porter’s lyrics are witty and sassy. I wanted to bring that “fun” playful attitude into the project. This arrangement has a fantastic beat and rhythm to it.

Too Young to Go Steady is a song written by Jimmy McHugh and Harold Adamson. It is extra special to me because I know the McHugh family and adore them. They are wonderful, talented, and have hearts of gold. Knowing the family and singing the song was a gift and a blessing. It captures that feeling of being in love for the very first time, or puppy love, or that first crush…

Children Will Listen is a song that I like to sing to myself when I am dealing with the craziness of everyday life…I am a mother of three… This is a song is also valuable for teachers to remember, because we have so much influence over our students’ self-esteem… What we tell them they often believe… “Careful what you say, children will listen…”

My students (past and present) have taught me so much and have inspired, encouraged, and made my life better. Thank you! You are all in my heart.

I Will Never Leave You was a song that one of my best friends sent to me as a gift. I fell in love with the song and realize that your true friends will stand by you and help you throughout your lifetime. They are diamonds and they are beautiful. They are so dear to me and I am thankful for those people in my life. This is dedicated to my friends that have had cancer and are battling cancer; their courage is an inspiration to me.

Dance is a song that Amanda McBroom wrote. It is a song that I loved from the first moment that I heard it. It is meaningful and honest, because it is a song about the desire for a love to sustain romance throughout a couple’s lifetime.

Last but not least… To all of you reading this right now…

My new friends,

It is my wish that these songs will inspire you in some special way, because every person can make a positive difference in this world.

Believe in the beauty of dreams, the power of kindness, the importance of laughter, the value of knowledge through education, and never give up hope - because things eventually change.

Thank you for reading this and sharing this experience with me.

Your Friend,

Marci
