Skip Wilkins

Pianist Skip Wilkins has performed with David Liebman, David Sánchez, Stanley Turrentine, Bobby Watson, Plas Johnson, Mark Murphy, Clark Terry, Conte Candoli and Peter Erskine. He has four CDs on Dreambox Media: The Paint-Peeler (2008), Skip Wilkins Solo—Live at Lafayette (2007), Skip Wilkins Quintet: Volume II (2007), and Volume I (2006), and two earlier CDs with flutist Jill Allen, including Petty Theft (2001, Cathexis Records), which features saxophonist David Liebman. He also has two new Dreambox CDs for 2011, including a release of standards, I Concentrate on You, and a new set of originals, After. Skip recently finished a new recording with his son Daniel, a budding tenor saxophone star in NYC. This recording will be released in 2012. Regionally, he performs and records with Scott Lee, Jeff Hirshfield, Tony Marino, Tom Kozic, Paul Kendall, Gary Rissmiller and Tony Gairo, among many others, in addition to numerous nightlclub and festival performances with his children, Daniel and Emily.

Internationally, he tours, records and teaches regularly in Central Europe. He has performed throughout the Czech Republic on numerous tours with The International Quintet, whose members include Rostislav Fraš, Josef Fečo, Neil Wetzel, Gary Rissmiller and Skip Wilkins. Czech Radio Prague released their CD Frýdlant Nights in conjunction with their February 2010 US tour. Each summer since 2007, Skip has led the vocal jazz classes at the Karel Velebny Summer Jazz Workshop in Frýdlant, Czech Republic. He has headlined at large jazz festivals in the Czech Republic, including Přerov and Vsetín, and in the top Prague jazz clubs, including Jazz Dock and Agharta. He has appeared numerous times on Czech Television and is routinely featured in live radio broadcasts during his numerous tours there. He also performs regularly in Berlin. He headlined at Schlot in May. Skip will be living in Prague from June 2011 through August 2012, during which time he will be touring throughout Europe. Skip is Associate Professor of Music at Lafayette College, where he teaches music theory and jazz courses, and is a member of the adjunct staff at Moravian College, teaching jazz piano.
