Melanie, Sarah Beth, and Paul met in Alaska in 2006. At that point they formed a musical and artistic kinship, but officially formed the trio of "Sweet Ginger Heat" in the summer of 2010. They stormed the Alaskan music festival circuit, and played to audiences around central Alaska, culminating in an end-of-summer blowout at Denali''s World Famous Salmon Bake. They also began recording at the end of the summer, inviting a host of guest musicians to grace their record. Sweet Ginger Heat began branching out of Alaska into the "Lower 48" states this spring, and look forward to bringing their unique blend of folk, country, and bluegrass to the masses. Sweet Ginger Heat is Melanie on vocals and acoustic guitar, Sarah Beth on vocals and ukulele, and Paul on bass and percussion. All three are gifted musicians with a background in musical theater, and their natural theatricality guarantees an entertaining live show.
Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Melanie Joy Hall comes from a musical family, and has been singing and playing piano from an early age. Around the time she started spending summers in Alaska (in 2005), she was bit by the bluegrass/country music bug, and began playing acoustic guitar. Her first CD, "Falling To The Moon" is also available on CD Baby, and features several songs by her father, Gary M. Hall. Gary also appears as a guest artist on "Healy Heartache".
Sarah Beth Tanner hails from Cullman, Alabama, and is a born performer. A gifted singer and actress, she has performed in regional theaters all over the country, and, like Melanie, took up a new instrument - the ukulele - during her summers in Alaska. Her passion for music, and telling the story of the song, is evident in every performance.
Paul Seiz is an accomplished and versatile multi-instrumentalist. With a college degree in Percussion Performance, experience as a musical director and pianist with dozens of theater productions, and a few months spent drumming in Ghana, West Africa, he now earns his living as a musician in dueling piano bars and cruise ships.
The varied talents of the three members of Sweet Ginger Heat compliment each other beautifully, and create a dynamic, exciting sound. The band''s sound is enhanced by the gifted guest musicians on the album: Jill Tieskoetter on harmony vocals, Andrew Crowe on violin, Joe Howton on banjo, and Dan Berberich on dobro.
