For their second FMR release, Rob Hall (saxophones & clarinet) and Chick
Lyall (piano) draw from a wide range of sources forging a deeply engag-
ing and intimate musical dialogue. New compositions from both musi-
cians are interspersed with four freely improvised interludes which stand
as a connected suite in their own right. Two non-improvised movements
from Hall’s Sonata for Clarinet and Pianoare deftly worked into the pro-
gramme.
This new recording was funded by the Scottish Arts Council and shows
this fine duo continuing their musical journey between composition and
improvisation, poetic lyricism combined with exploratory jazz soloing. (movements 2&3) by Rob Hall
