Robert Quirk was born on July 25, 1956, was raised in Long Beach California, and is the oldest of 3 children. He began surfing in 1968 on a 10’ Jack’s surfboard, a sport which has influenced his life and he still enjoys today. He worked with his brother Greg in the home construction and remodel business in Southern California, and was later one of the founding members and bass guitar player of the classic rock band The Intruders in the early 90’s. He has one son, Justin, born in 1984, and began shaping surfboards in 1986 when he couldn’t find a surfboard small enough for the 2 year old toddler. Since then he has hand shaped numerous long and short boards under the brand name of Captain Q Surfboards. He moved with his son to live in Mexico in March, 1996, and built houses before building the Pescadero Palace in front of the Pescadero surf break. After becoming a pilot and Basic Flight Instructor of ultralight aircraft, he was granted Mexican citizenship in 2005. He wrote and recorded Last Dance at the reclusive Pescadero Palace, where he currently resides in El Pescadero, Mexico. His music was influenced by two musicians he befriended while living there, Alejandro Escovedo and David Raitt. Today he surfs, records music, flies, and entertains guests, friends, and family at the Pescadero Palace.
