Nocturnes for Horn and Harp by F. J. Naderman
Composer François Joseph Naderman was born in Paris on the 5th of August, 1781 he was the son of Jean-Henri Naderman (1735-1799) who was a music publisher, and along with his partner Jean-Baptiste Krumpholtz (1742-1790) built many single-action harps. Francois Joseph was a student of Krumpholtz. François and his brother Henri eventually took over the family harp making business. Henri devoted himself more to his father’s business. François managed to achieve favor and position with Napoleon, and after the restoration in 1815 he was appointed harpist of the ‘Chapelle et Chambre du Roi’ (The Kings’ house harpist). He went on to be the first harp teacher at the Paris Conservatory starting in 1825. He taught at the conservatory until his death on the 2nd of April 1835.
He wrote a number of works for horn and harp which he played with Frederic Duvernoy (1771 - 1838).
French hornist Frederic Duvernoy was one the four hornists who taught at the Paris Conservatory at its conception in 1795. Duvernoy was the only native Frenchman out of the four horn teachers, and he was self-taught. He was the senior professor until 1817 when he retired from the Conservatory and his post of first horn of the Opera. He is considered to be the first of the true “French” horn players. He played first horn at the Imperial Chapel until 1830. He was admired by Napoleon, Louis XVI and Charles X.
