Details:
The questions of the soul are the ones that are never really answered. It is in the process of searching where we are forced to understand without answers and find peace along the way. Music is a place of solace when we are longing for this clarity. Garrin Benfield was born to make the kind of music that people can turn to in moments of transition and find acceptance in the face of uncertainty. Warm and tranquil, his songs take the listener by the hand and offer up the possibility that all really is going to be OK, even if the road ahead is going to get rocky.

Nowhere is Brighter is an attempt, Garrin says, "to gather together a series of songs that best describe my life while living in a place of not knowing." The songs here are tactile audio environments that provide a landscape filled with raw emotion exposed for the listener to explore. Each song offers a glimpse of the emotional conditions the singer lives in without, as he puts it, "being obsessed with the particulars."

In addition to the finely crafted lyrics, Garrin is an established guitar player and composer. His reputation for technical mastery is at least in part a reason why he has been able to attract the attention of several well-known artists. Producer Michael Rodriguez, who worked on Boz Scaggs'' Grammy-nominated record Come On Home was on board from day one. On this record, Garrin has had the pleasure to work with several outstanding session players as well, including a powerhouse rhythm section featuring drummer Ricky Fataar, (Bonnie Raitt, The Beach Boys) and bassist James "Hutch" Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt, CSNY). Also featured on the CD are Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco), Charles Gillingham (Counting Crows), Jon Cleary (Bonnie Raitt) and Jimmy Pugh (Robert Cray). In a very special moment, legend Boz Scaggs stopped in to contribute a solo to one of the albums outstanding tracks, the bluesy "The Sense that I Get."

Growing up in Westchester County, New York, Garrin has been making music all of his life. He grew up in a family that spent many evenings together, with various siblings taking turns singing and playing guitar. The youngest of nine, Garrin was exposed to many different musical genres during his formative years. One group in particular would become an essential part of his musical education beginning when he was given the Beatles Second Album. As well, Bob Dylan and CSNY have informed his songwriting. More recently, Garrin''s music has been inspired by the likes of David Gray, Gillian Welch and Radiohead.
