Details:
Singer/songwriter Irene Rose Smith is an 8th generation South Carolinian who cherishes her southern roots and Christian heritage. Her music is a soundtrack of the south as she wistfully sings about family, small towns, sweet tea, grits and God. “I like to sing the songs that make people smile and nod because they know exactly what I’m talking about.” Starting young writing music on the piano, in high school Irene Rose was ready for something different. At 17, a family friend gave her a classical guitar. Though she had never played before, two days later she had written her first song and hasn''t looked back since.
In college at CSU, Irene Rose won her university''s version of American Idol twice, sang at multiple school functions including entertainment at both Mr. And Miss CSU pageants, and frequented Overflow coffee house. When B92 radio station sponsored a talent search in Summerville, Irene Rose was a top finalist.

Irene Rose graduated from Charleston Southern University in December 2007. She then studied in Auckland, New Zealand at a creative and performing arts school through Youth With A Mission. She wrote and performed original music for her team’s production that toured throughout New Zealand, Thailand, China, and Hong Kong.

After returning to Charleston in September 2008, Irene Rose recorded an EP CD at Awendaw Green and continues to play more shows in the Charleston area. She was featured at Rocktoberfest at Awendaw Green twice and frequently performs at the venue’s barn jams. Irene Rose and sister Lydia entertained Summerville crowds at the Flowertown Festival and the Sunset Serenade opening for the Summerville Community Orchestra. Her song "Blood, Sweat, and Tears," is featured on the SC Songwriter''s Guild Gospel CD. This summer, Irene Rose and Lydia went on a music tour to Nashville where she was invited to sing in multiple honkytonks on Broadway. In June, the girls also performed at the Harbor Festival when the tall ships came into Charleston. Irene Rose also got to play her song “Home to Charleston” for Mayor Joe Riley. She has even branched out of her usual folk genre and collaborated on a hip hop album.

Irene Rose just released her new album "How It Ought To Be." which is a nostalgic collection taking you on a journey through small towns in pick up trucks, falling in love and reaching your dreams. “I choose to look at the blessings God has given me and view the glass half full. I sing about life the way it ought to be.”
