Details:
LUNAMOON’s personnel includes two married couples: Kerry (lead vocalist) and Randy (bassist) May, and Debra Meunier (backup vocals) and Ron Schmitt (keyboards, composer). Together they have created an album that is an homage to the great jazz and Latin ballroom dance music of the middle 20th century with a modern and all original approach. The band combines retro elements with contemporary sounds, production and recording effects to create a refreshing new twist on a classic jazz sub-genre. With moods ranging from sultry to silly, this album includes songs in appropriate tempos and feels for ballroom dancing, but can also be just for listening.

Songs on LUNAMOON:

Our Love Gone – a high energy bossa nova with an unforgettable bass riff, it includes a bass and vocal a cappella bridge and a sax/muted trumpet duet solo.

Bermuda Sunrise – a samba that is also an explanation (but not an apology) for a severe episode of day-dreaming, it includes a fiery bass and drum intro and outro, and vibraphone solos.

Never Say – a breakup song with a funky, Middle Eastern inflected feel that has dense percussion including udu, dumbek, and osi drums.

All the Lights are Green – a fun song that combines be-bop swing and hip-hop rhythms and includes a section with piano and bass splitting fours with drums.

Close Enough to Stay – a very sultry ballad with a slightly African feel that features Kerry May’s lush vocals.

He Always Says Hi – a song that combines flamenco and pop-R&B elements, and includes an extended guitar duet intro, a bridge with vocals and two flutes and (believe it or not) a fuzz bass solo.

Elsewhere is Where I Belong – a rhumba that wishes it was being sung on a tropical island and includes a dueling sax/bass solo and a sexy vocal scat outro.

Standing in My Own Shadow – a tango about the costs of not forgiving that switches smoothly from 2/4 to 3/4 to 5/4 time, and includes rich vocal harmonies.

The Ways Amelia Plays – a mambo that celebrates a truly hot mama and includes steel drums and a steel drum synth solo.

Why Get By – a cha-cha about following your dreams with an intro and outro that recall those scratchy (but beautiful) cha-cha records from the 50’s in your basement.

Side to Side – something we call Sweggae – a combination of swing and reggae that features strong bass and percussion and includes vocal scatting in two places.
