Anew (formerly known as “6430”), was formed in 1987 with the hope that these ladies would one day be star-studded recording artists. YaVonne aka Squeaky, and Crystal began entering talent shows, singing in night clubs, and traveling the Midwest and Eastern United States. As they began to grow musically, opportunities grew as well. They had the privilege for opening for artists such as Common, The Whispers, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Monifa, H-Town and Next. They were featured on a song with Big Pun for the White Boys movie soundtrack after signing with A&R Executive Brian Leach under T.V.T. Records. Their first cd included songs written by Lil Mo and Montel Jordan and featured the rapper Ja rule.
The members of 6430 were also gifted songwriters, whose lyrics evolved from romantic sensuality to that of inspiration, encouragement and life fulfillment Therefore they were faced with the very difficult decision of continuing down the R&B path or embracing the truth. After much prayer and soul-searching individually and collectively, they decided to embrace the calling God placed on their lives. Thus, began the transition and transformation from “6430” to “Anew”. The name “Anew” comes from the Holy Bible scripture 2 Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The name signifies God giving the ladies “Anew” song to sing, “Anew” life to live, and “Anew” purpose in life.
YaVonne aka Squeaky: Alto! Alto! Alto! Vocally, every group needs a solid foundation, and YaVonne’s velvety, vivacious voice is it.
