What’s this CD all about? Well, first we’ll tell you a little about the music, the title, and a little about the artists.

This CD was recorded before the earthquake and tsunami devastation in Japan. Our hearts go out to the beautiful people of Japan who have welcomed us jazz musicians with open arms. Often times, they’ve supported the music more than our own fans here in the United States. Thank you for your helping to preserve the music.

We begin with a beautiful ballad. Lazy Afternoon, written by John LaTouche & Jerome Moross, It’s a very sweet tune. In fact, in our rendition, you are quickly transported to nature… replete with birds chirping… You can imagine a lazy Sunday when you don’t have anything to do… except enjoy the soft music … and Angela’s silky sweet song stylings. So, just lay back and come along for the ride…

Inspired by Etta James, she bears her soul in an all too realistic scenario of “I can’t resist you, so I’m just gonna say: Damn Your Eyes!” written by Stephen Bogard & Barbara Wyrick. Get your groove on with the Afro Cuban Senor Blues written by Horace Silver.

You’ll enjoy Angela’s unique phrasing in the timeless ballads Don’t Go To Strangers, Daydream, When October Goes and Midnight Sun.

If you’ve seen Angela host Jazz Central on BET in the 90’s, you’ll know why she’s so close to many gifted artists. When the network was in full swing, the jazz community made themselves available to do whatever was needed to make it successful. Najee was one of them. They quickly became good friends. She recorded background vocals on the title song on his “Share My World CD.” , he plays a masterful solo on Moondance with his mesmerizing flute.

Tokyo Sundays was recorded at Leda Studios in Tokyo, Japan where, for the past 7 years, Angela spends three months out of the year. It’s such a beautiful city. Much like New York, you’ll see many, many buildings but, you’ll all see lots of trees and several perfectly landscaped parks throughout the city. Most people get around on foot or by taking the subway. Actually, not just the parks, but, everywhere you look the grounds are beautifully landscaped whether it be the business district or residential. Although Tokyo is a crowded, bustling city, it is very clean and beautiful. But, it’s the people who make it most special.

Sunday has always been her absolute favorite day of the week perhaps because she was born on a Sunday. However in the case of the Tokyo gigs, that’s the only guaranteed day off. No touring, no promotional events, no agenda whatsoever. So, when Sunday rolls around, it’s time to relax, hang with friends, pig out, anything goes! What better place to run wild than a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Tokyo.

One of the most exciting things about performing at the famed New York Bar in Shinjuku is working with her Tokyo based band. They’re all bandleaders and have accompanied many other A-list artists.
