Heavily influenced by Bob Dylan’s image-rich, stream-of-consciousness lyrical style and his philosophical and humanitarian undertones, Anna Rose Beck began writing songs when she was 22. Born in Austin, she attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where she studied biomedical engineering and was drawn into the rich traditions of North Carolina’s old-time folk music culture. Equipped with an acoustic guitar, Beck taught herself how to play and eventually developed her own unusual finger-picking styles. With a unique voice that is both warm and innocent (and often compared to that of Natalie Merchant and Dar Williams), she is a skilled storyteller who is able to translate her inner dialogues and fantasies into addicting melodies, consistently producing songs that are enchanting, highly imaginative and deeply contemplative. In September of 2010 she collaborated with Asheville-based producer Andrew Schatzberg to record her first album The Weathermaker - a refined collection of the songs that marked the beginnings of her songwriting career. She is accompanied on the album by melodic arrangements of cello, piano and pedal steel guitar that reinforce the otherworldly, fairy tale-like ambiance many of her songs suggest.
