Violence, Dancing, Music! These three topics have been frequently explored in popular music and culture. On this CD, we have connected violence and dancing in classical formats but at the same time acknowledging our composers'' love of borrowing popular idioms. Through violent knife fights in Piazzolla''s "Angel Suite" and Bernstein''s "West Side Story," the music and the plots are propelled forward. These characters dance the Milonga, the Tango, and the Cha Cha before the violence erupts. Barber''s "Souvenirs" suite is much less violent, but again embraces dance as it soothes the soul. The Bradley Beckman and Carolyn True Duo have been performing together since 2000 in national and international venues. Presenting both standard and contemporary works from 1900 to the present day, their programs include music for duo pianos and piano duet. Also committed teachers, Beckman and True''s collaboration has extended into workshops for experience teachers and young musicians. Presently, Beckman teaches at University of North Texas and True teachers at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX
