Details:
In this day and age, bands form and disassemble faster than they can even start to gather a collection of original material, mostly because they lack the drive and dedication to succeed. Since the formation of Shinky, they have worked arguably as hard as any unsigned act around to set themselves apart from the average band and build their band from the ground up. Shinky was born in 2000 when three friends shared an unparalleled passion for music and came together with the goal of realizing a dream. This collaboration has resulted in an unmistakably gripping collection of songs, an unforgettable live show, and a purity and integrity to their music that is truly hard to come by. Singer / guitarist Michael Bookmyer and drummer Kyle Ferguson recruited bassist Quinn Liggett in May of 2000 and the three close friends wasted no time in getting their band off the ground. Soon after the band’s inception, they were playing a busy show schedule on a weekly basis and quickly spreading their name to surrounding cities. By the year 2003, they had become a polished live act by playing in several venues scattered all over the Midwest, and constantly building their fan base in the process. The continual additions to the fan base and the gain of respect in the area brought the opportunity of better shows for Shinky. Soon they were playing shows with up-and-coming indie acts such as Coheed and Cambria (Equal Vision Records), Fairweather (Equal Vision Records), Emanuel (Vagrant Records), Two Thirty Eight (Tooth & Nail Records), and Student Rick (Victory Records) to name a few. In addition, three tours spanning all over the Midwest and southern United States proved to be invaluable to the development of the band and creating a buzz. Shinky’s music could be described as in-your-face rock with punk and indie rock influences. The songs have been carefully sculpted with intriguing arrangements and thought provoking lyrics to form unmistakable hooks that draw you into the heart of the music. Shinky draws musical influences from a wide variety of bands including U2, The Get Up Kids, Nirvana, Elliott, Weezer, Our Lady Peace, and Foo Fighters. This diversity helps to form a rock sound with the intensity and creativity to fit some punk and indie categories, yet is accessible enough to reach music fans beyond a narrow category of listeners. Aside from the thoughtfully constructed collection of songs that forms the band’s identity, the core of Shinky is their live show. The energy, intensity, and raw emotions that are exuded in every live performance are simply undeniable and displays the true implications of the music in a powerfully stirring way. Shinky’s live show is an example of self expression in its purest form, and for five years they have set out to make a connection with any person that they have the opportunity to play for. The passion that radiates from the music they write is apparent every show, regardless of the size of the audience, further attributing to their ever growing fan base. In 2005, Shinky was finally blessed with the resources possible to portray the essence of the band in a recording, and has taken full advantage with almost a year of hard work invested in the process. Shinky''s self-titled E.P. released on Platinum Plus Records is a collection of songs that shows the blood, sweat, and tears the band has put into their craft, and has provided a real outlet for exhibiting everything that Shinky stands for: passion, intensity, dedication, purity, and a drive to make it in the music industry.
