Shyla is a singer/songwriter from Southern California. Her music can be described as
a mixture of Neo-Soul and Adult Contemporary Jazz & R&B. Her influences are many, and include En Vogue, Chaka Khan, The Brand New Heavies, Sting, The Roots and Manhattan Transfer to name a few. Her infectious beats and smooth melodies are the foundation of her sound, but it is Shyla’s rich vocals and lush harmonies that are her true media of expression. Singing from a young age, Shyla learned an appreciation for the human voice as the purest musical instrument. Her love for harmony and powerful vocals harkens back to a lost era in American music. In her songwriting, Shyla explores the many aspects of human emotion, particularly love and its full spectrum of joy and sorrow, hope and despair, redemption and destitution. However, throughout the roller coaster of emotion, it cannot be missed that her message is overwhelmingly positive. Shyla’s ability to write from many different perspectives immediately imbues the listener with a sense of familiarity, giving the unmistakable feeling that the singer is relating to the listener’s own experiences.
