MP3 Seth Anderson - Songs From The Regal Ranch Sessions

Indie Roots Rock Americana

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, ROCK: Folk Rock

Details:
Songs from The Regal Ranch Sessions was recorded in a make shift studio housed in defunct A-frame saloon on the Regal Ranch property outside of Houston. Tracks for Ranch Sessions were also cut in Austin, New York City and my former hometown metropolis of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Looking at this record''s title and cover, most people think that this stuff is country. Believe it or not, I’ve never been a real country type of a guy. In fact, some people would find it hard to believe (being an Oklahoma State University Cowboy alum) I’ve never even been on a horse….....Besides I grew up "Sailing On" to Commodores records on my dad’s turntable.

A lot of this record features songwriter/ producer/ multi-instrumentalist Matt Hammon. Matt has toured been behind the drum kit backing Ben Folds, Sixpence None the Richer, Cary Pierce (Jack O’Pierce) and Bob Mould (former front man of legendary English pioneer punk-band Husker Du and Sugar).

Track # 6 Roy Rogers in California really showcases the drumming genius of Mr. Hammon. Making my first record took a lot of time but was a great experience. So was working with a talent like Matt and co-producer Jimmy Pizzitola. I also would like to thank long-time friend Adam Headrick in New York City and Nathan Clewell from Daddio''s Music in Stillwater for contributions to Track #10 State of Dakota. The track has been getting some recent airplay on 90.1 KPFT in Houston.

I was recently back in Houston for a wedding and ran into co-Ranch Sessions producer Jimmy Pizzitola. While we were recording the record at The Ranch, Jimmy always boasted to me and friends that one day “the magic again would return to (his family-owned) Regal Ranch.” Unfortunately, to my dismay, after my departure, it did. Apparently in the 50’s Regal Ranch hosted legendary country crooners such as Bob Willis, Earnest Tubb, Hank Williams and George Jones.

Jimmy quickly filled me in that an A list of Hollywood and sports celebrities were in attendance when Justin Timberlake and Maxim Magazine randomly selected Regal Ranch for its 2004 Super Bowl Bash. Jimmy was the host. I didn''t make the party.

Jimmy is a great musician and producer, (and attorney when he practices) in his own right, fronting a band called Jimmy James and the Enablers. I met Jimmy and Matt while playing the coffeehouse/pub circuit in Houston. I discovered probably the best place for a musician to get a start was a place called the Mucky Duck. Every Monday night Houston mainstay guitarist Wayne Wilkerson hosts a singer-song writer night. I met a lot of people at The Duck and at another place playing called Kay’s Lounge. I would like to give a shout out to co-Kay''s gigger Ryan Hughey who is probably back strumming in Hill Country after finishing law school at U o H.

The Ruta Maya Coffee House in Austin was also a good launching pad for me in South Texas…..Speaking of Austin and the last time I was back there........I was changing lanes and about ran over a motorcyclist who was racing around me in my blind spot. I was headed up the Hill on Congress Street to watch Bob Schneider play a gig at The Saxon Pub. The Harley Magellan quickly regained control of his Hawg, darted in front of me, and sped up the hill.

From the back in 100 degree heat, I was wondering what the hell this guy was doing wearing shark-skin blazer in this humidity. I then noticed his hair which appeared to have recently been dyed jet black. "Hmmm…...Got to be some actor in town from La La land filming a movie.”

In the words of Ed McMann I was “Correct Sir.”.....Non other than Keanu Reeves ……just finishing up production on the film "A Scanner Darkley" co-starring Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Winona Ryder and Rory Cochrane.

The "Point Break" protégé appeared to be waiting for me at the top of the hill. I came to a full stop and rolled down my window to see who he was and more importantly to tell him I was sorry. “Sorry I didn’t see you in my blind spot.”

There was no response from Keanu. Just his dude stair of intimidation that has apparently earned him critical acclaim as one of the greatest actors of all-time among his female fanbase.

Maybe he was just trying to get into to character for a "Point Break" sequel opposite my fellow Oklahoma State U grad Gary Busey. Sorry dude, The Buse will not be loose in a Sequel…… Patick Swayze had “the time of his life” shooting Busey as he died in his fellow “I am an F-B-I agent’s" arms....What an excellent adventure I had and great song topic for Mr. Matrix man myself MR. ANDERSON....stay tuned.

After almost being killed in a real car wreck in Houston, I’m happy to report my Gibson is back in hand and I’m working on new material here in my loft studio here in Tucson.

Due to the wreck and a career change, I never had the opportunity to promote this record. I hope you enjoy it.

Cheers!

Seth
