Described as a ‘powerhouse quintet’ CrossCurrent are a force to be reckoned with. With their musical drive and innovative approach to arrangement they bring new life into traditional music. Originating from England, Ireland and the Scottish Borders, the group formed their musical friendship at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne where four members, became the first graduates of the new degree course in folk and traditional music in June 2005. Performing a mixture of traditional and contemporary material their music is rooted in their own individual styles, but it’s the crossing of their respective traditions that makes CrossCurrent such a musically diverse band. Their unique blend of tenor banjo, fiddle, flute, ‘cello, guitar and bouzouki has earned them an international reputation for outstanding instrumental ability and coupled with the addition of three powerful vocalists they have rightfully earned their place at the heart of the recent resurgence of traditional music in the U.K.
