"Swing First, Think Later" is bassist/composer Tim Aucoin''s first CD as a leader. After 25 years as a sideman to such diverse musical luminaries as Nnenna Freelon, Allen Toussaint, the Mamas and the Papas, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Luther Kent and Trickbag, and Pete Fountain (among others.) "Swing First, Think Later" gives Aucoin a palette from which to explore some of his favorite musical influences (and grooves.) It includes eleven original compositions that range from hard-swinging bop to melt-in-your-chair ballads. Featured are the extraordinary talents of pianist-Bill Anschell, saxophonist-Brian Lopes, drummer-Justin Varnes, trumpeter-Gordon Vernick, and percussionist-Jerry Fields.

Aucoin is a regular call for professional theater/show orchestras and recording projects of all varieties.

In addition to his on-going commitment to music making, Aucoin is a long-time music educator. He is a past director of the Atlanta All-Star Grammy Jazz Band, which was a high school ensemble sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. He has served as the President of the Georgia Association of Jazz Educators from 1997 - 1999. In 1994, Mr. Aucoin was selected as a Teacher of the Year in Fulton County Schools. In 1996, the Taylor Road M.S. Jazz Ensemble, under his direction, performed at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference. In 2002, while Performing Arts Department Chair and Orchestra Director, North Springs High School was named a "National Grammy Signature School." In 2004, the Northview High School Chamber Orchestra, under Mr. Aucoin''s direction was a featured performer for the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah, GA. The Northview ensemble has also performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago in December of 2004. He holds both B.M.E. and M.M. (Jazz Studies) degrees from Loyola University in New Orleans. In addition, he holds an Educational Specialist Degree with a concentration in music from Georgia State University. He has served as adjunct faculty at Loyola University of New Orleans and Georgia State University. Mr. Aucoin is presently serving as the director of orchestras at Northview High School and is the Chairman of their Fine Arts Department .
