Codaphonic offers up seemingly straight-forward pop/rock in the tradition of artists like The Beatles, Harry Nilsson, XTC, and Ben Folds. Their songs, penned by frontman Cody Newman, are “filled with catchy hooks, strong melodies, and enough ‘ooh’s and ‘aah’s to break through the deepest gloom” (Jack Silverman, Nashville Scene). But like their aforementioned influences, Codaphonic’s music goes deeper than it’s bouncy pop exterior. The lyrics can be introspective and ironic, but always heartfelt and often humorous. The subject matter ranges from re-occurring dreams, to falling in love, to being an outsider, to social comment as in "Ritalin", a piercing take on "drug culture" delivered with a cheery horn section and a wicked grin!
Cody Newman (guitar), Taylor Jones (bass), and Justin Harris (drums) formed Codaphonic in Nashville, TN, in the summer of 2005. Their first year was spent honing their sound and readying the release of their debut EP, "Good Morning Radio", released in late 2006. The project was completed independently with local engineers/friends Mike Paragone and David Axelrod.
Codaphonic’s music is organic and alive, constantly growing and exploring new ways in which to more fully realize their sound. However, one of the band''s most endearing attributes may be simply this...they have fun and so do we!
