The Story of We Cry For America
My thoughts were jumbled in July, 2006, during my morning quiet time. I was deeply concerned about the state of my beloved country and its people.
I thought about
The soulless corporate greed in control of our government,
The Iraq War for Oil,
Deliberate lying about weapons of mass destruction,
The Outing of CIA’s Valerie Plame to punish her husband, Joe Wilson,
Our troops responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 people,
The killing and maiming of thousands of American soldiers,
The brutalizing of our troops forced to kill,
Torture and death of dozens of captives approved by the Administration,
Captives held in secret prisons without due process of law,
War profiteering by Haliburton and others with no oversight,
The reduction of veterans’ benefits,
Widespread voter fraud,
Foreign policy based on controlling the resources of other countries.
The so-called Patriot Act,
Increasing the number of terrorists as a result of this pre-emptive war,
Illegal wiretapping and seizing of telephone records,
The borrowing of billions of dollars from China,
Increasing the national debt by trillions,
Allowing offshore corporate headquarters to avoid paying taxes,
Lack of universal health care,
Robbing the poor to pay the rich,
Unstopped raising of gas prices to provide profits for oil companies,
Charging of hugely-inflated drug prices,
Outsourcing of American jobs,
Using fear to control the people,
Lying and lying and lying on every level of government.
And from my despair was created We Cry For America. The words and music seem to flow with an intelligence of their own. I shared them with Gil Yslas and his wife Niobe Weaver. With their support, we created this CD.
We need to work on the inner levels and the outer levels. It is hoped that those listening will be inspired to stand up and make their voice heard – loudly and often! Then once again we may have a government of, by, and for the people.
