Ballard made this record in the course of a week at Kopperhead Studios in Canton. For the first time in the studio, using his then-working backing band, the songs come off closer to the energy and excitement of his onstage sets than any previous offering. Featured in the band were Peter McDermott, Chris Edwards, Steve Sanders, Jefferson Rice, Greg Hurd and Mark Shapiro. Songs run the gamut from the dark rocker Speed Demons to the anthemic Don''t Take No... to the topical, Is The Watchman Sleeping? and Le'' Mercenaire to the upbeat dancer, She''s Alright and the story/ballad of Night Time For Jacob. This collection got much attention from indie press and college radio alongside bands of the time such as R.E.M., Ten Thousand Maniacs and The Smithereens.
