Devil’s Mandolin Band is a collection of intense, fun, and melodic songs for mandolin written in a Jazz Fusion style. The speedy mandolin parts are a big focus in the music. The Tubular Bells (theme from the Exorcist movie) track is an whirlwind arrangement with mandolin replacing the piano parts in the lead melody. It has gained an underground following of mandolin fans due to the intense solo at the end.
There is also plenty of electric and acoustic guitar work including singing. All the instruments were performed by Jason Hagen – except track 4, bass was performed by Teddy Germane. Bass on tracks 1,2,6, and 8 – which were played by Mike Paulhamus.
This album was recorded and mixed in New York City.
