In 2006 Mateus was pronounced legally blind at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Over the course of the next year Mateus learned to play the piano and the drums and wrote his first song titled "Human Effect." This song is about overcoming Human trials and Tribulations. Shortly after writing "Human Effect" Mateus miraculously regained his vision. Thus beggining his journey toward becoming a successful songwriter/musician and recording artist known as "Mateus."
