Hailing from the harsh desert climate of Apple Valley, California, Subvert brings us their debut EP; “We’ll Make More Than Noise”. More than 9 months in the making, this 7 song collection sounds like anything but Subvert’s freshman release. From the thumping, snapping and crashing of the drums that hearken back to early 90’s style punk rock like Propagandhi, the thronging, intricate bass lines, to the sometimes thrashy, sometimes subtle and sometimes bouncing duo of guitars that make up Subvert, these songs won’t disappoint by any means.
While it’s obvious that the boys in Subvert draw influence from bands like Refused, Gather, Suicide Machines and Comeback kid, on many of the tracks, one can easily detect the ska influenced overtones. For many bands, the task of melding two vastly different styles of music like ska and hardcore punk rock, might seem like too tall an order to fill. This doesn’t seem to be the case for Subvert, though, they manage to pull of this menagerie seamlessly.
Finally, the component of Subvert’s music that I personally feel is the most important, are the issues dealt with in their lyrical content. Socio-Political and historical awareness are at the core of Subvert’s drive to create music that fosters awareness for the woes of capitalism, the affects of industrialization, unjust conflict and war, humyn and animal liberation as well as countless other exceedingly important issues.
I sincerely hope that Subvert continues to create music and that they receive the recognition the deserve.

I''m not a young guy, and in my life i have seen literally thousands of bands. Since moving to California ten years ago, i have only witnessed a handful of California-based bands that inspire, entertain, or move me. Subvert is one of these few. I know that i am supposed to write about the new record, but the beauty of Subvert is the players, themselves. Robby, Nick, and Jehiah are three "kids" who are driven by an insatiable love of politics, art, life, and the world. In these modern times of quasi-underground music, Subvert manages to employ the dead-and-gone sound and energy of eras when punk was dead and buried to the mainstream. The new record is a turn toward musical sophistication and harmony, combined with raw energy and...well...fun.
