Details:

Percussionist and soulful singer Robert Barron was born in Firebaugh California & raised in San Jose. Raised by his mother with four brothers, two sisters who later moved to San Ysidro, the border town between Mexico and California where she opened a restaurant in Tijuana. Robert started learning the guitar at age 9 by his oldest brother who was playing with a Trio along the strip. It was then he noticed and realized that music was an important aspect of the family. At age 14 an older brother bought him a drum set to fill in for a brother’s band he was forming where they mostly played house parties. It was during his extent in the military in the early 1970’s when he came home on leave one day to find his brother playing in a Tex Mex Salsa band and was asked to play the Timbales for a few songs. This was his introduction to the Latin percussion sounds he wanted to be around. Soon after he picked up the Congas and bongos and started to culminate the unique rhythm sounds you hear today. Playing in the Bay area for the last few decades with local bands and back up to recording artists (Rico Reyes from Santana Band, Steve Rocha from Malo, Danny Hull formerly with the Doobie Brothers and current lead singer Tony Lindsey from Carlos Santana band). Robert continues to perform with entertainer Jerry Sauceda Trio locally but has most recently entered the recording field where he has composed, arranged and recorded original music soon to be released in EP. Inspired by the great Carlos Santana, BB King, George Benson, War, Earth Wind & Fire just to name a few, with Cumbias, Salsa not to mention Trio Los Panchos, Trio Los Ases, Havier Solis. It’s no wonder why the spectrum of music is so variable, but yet the sultry sounds in either language always seem to reside.
