Deeply inspired by the spirit of reggae music since early childhood, Christopher Plaza Perreira began playing a variety of keyboards at the age of twelve. His mentors have included the world-renowned jazz pianist Martin Headman, master musician Danjuma Adamu from Nigeria, and his father, bandleader Michael Perreira (aka Ras Aloe). Some of the international artists Christopher has performed with include legendary Jamaican songwriter/vocalist Earl Zero, Ethiopian performer Isaac Haile Selassie, and Paolos and the Habesha from Eritrea. For five years Chris was keyboardist for Danjuma Adamu’s West African high-life and Afro-beat touring and recording band Kosono, and also did a stint with the popular Bay Area hip-hop group Triplex. At the age of 23, Christopher has already recorded two cds under his own name. “Don’t Worry Mama,” released in June 2002 with the help of Danjuma Adamu, is a rich and pungent blend of reggae and West African flavors; his most recent offering, “Mr. President,” is a sharp criticism of current politicians and a return to roots reggae.
