MP3 Randy Auxier - Southwind

Acoustic guitar-driven singer/songwriter in the folk vain, with just a hint of bluegrass.

16 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
Raised on the music of the great folk scare, Randy came to be inspired later by the Atlanta folk scene of the 1980s, including Indigo Girls and the acoustic moods of REM. Having spent the 70s playing rock and roll, but writing sappy ballads, Randy transitioned into a more literate style of songwriting as the 90''s wore on, due to collaborations with singer/songwriter Robert Hoyt and later Jim Preble. The experience of playing far and wide in songwriting duos culminated ultimately in the songs written for this CD, between 1999 and 2003.

Most of the songs are about actual people and events from Randy''s experience, tinged with his own philosophical viewpoint. Randy is a philosophy professor and employs songwriting as a vehicle for philosophical reflection upon daily life. The most recent and life-changing influences in Randy''s playing and songwriting styles have been the work of the late Dave Carter, his mythopoetic American folk music, and the community and traditions of the Kerrville Folk Festival. These influences are quite pronounced in the tunes written in 2001 and afterwards.
