Robert James Watkins Jr founded Turbulence LLC in 2003. With only a dream to start a record label that would be a premiere entertainment company (i.e. Motown) in the Detroit Metro area he set out on his own. With little support RJ Watkins or Junior as many call him begin his journey. The journey was difficult and very frustrating. Junior found himself surrounded by many people but few he could trust. The times become more difficult to the point that Junior almost gave up on his dream of starting the company. No one at the time believed in a Rap Motown movement especially one that would be lead by a 20 something year old with just a dream.
Not even his father Robert Watkins Senior (CEO of Watkins Broadcast 88.1 FM and TV 33/Comcast 20) believed that Junior could succeed in this endeavor. Senior felt that Junior''s talent would be better served helping out the Broadcast Company with editing and programming responsibilities. After a bitter disagreement regarding his job function within the Broadcast company Junior left the family business. Now on his own, Junior faced more challenges. It became even more difficult to get anyone to believe in his dream. The times for Junior became turbulent, hence the company name Turbulence was created.
With nothing more then his knowledge he obtained from working at his father''s Broadcast company (10 years of Broadcast production) and his Mac G4 Junior created the show Turbulence T.V. Turbulence TV was/is an urban music video show that was created, produced, directed, edited, and written by Junior. His superior editing techniques gave the show a film quality comparable to BET & MTV productions. With a newfound direction Junior returned to his father''s Broadcast company and convinced his father to let him air the show.
And the rest is history. Turbulence T.V. is now the premiere show on Watkins Broadcast. Turbulence and Turbulence T.V. is a marque company and well known in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
Shorlty after Turbulence was born Junior met Scrill.
Scrill, born DeAngelo Hatcher was raised in the tough streets of Highland Park, MI. DeAngelo turned to rap to cope with the difficult ghetto life. Sharpening his skills in writing and flow (rap rhyming) DeAngelo became know as Scrill. The moniker Scrill means money in street terms and was given to him by his friends that knew his rap style would land him a recording deal and soon Platinum sales.
Junior and Scrill met while Scrill was perfoming at a battle session locally in the Detroit area. Junior immediately knew that Scrill was what he was looking for. After a brief discussion about the record label that Junior had created Scrill quickly joined the crew. Scrill began to assemble a team of rappers that now make up the Turbulence Crew.
