Details:
Sometimes, particles drifting through the universe are pulled together by strange gravitational forces and, after a cosmic collision, form a larger entity. An event like this happened to form The Billion.
The group, formed in 1999 in Chapel Hill, NC, is named for the famous Carl Sagan misquote "Billions and Billions." Comprised of Kirk Bryson, Paula Childers, and Bruce Stevens, The Billion has forged a unique and eclectic sound.
https://www.tradebit.com described them as a "crisp, clean, energetic, fun and quirky three piece." One fan dubbed their music "rock with deviations." These deviations include stylistic forays into funk, folk, country, rap, and polka; and pop culture references to Star Wars, American cheese, and Vikings.
With their newest release, Aisle 5, The Billion have raised the musical bar even higher. They explore many far reaches of the musical universe; theremin-enriched swamp boogie ("Zombie Stomp"); Zappa-esque rock ("Dirty Little Viking"); textural guitar pop ("Carpets of Michigan"); orchestrated guitar rock ("Nothing"); and some places that exist between musical genres ("Respaminator"). The Independent Weekly said of Aisle 5 and The Billion; " The group''s penchant for otherworldly sounds, odd pop melodies and guitar lines, not to mention pop culture references and strange spoken/sung vocals, make them a band of a different color."
