A review by Erica Parfit of the Missoulian:

A descriptive musical tale

In the gratitude notes of his album "Slipstream," Dennis
Bolten calls himself a "simple guitar player." What he
plays is far from simple. "Slipstream" is an instrumental
album consisting of Bolten playing the six-string, 12-
string and the resonator. Anyone who''s tried their hand
at picking the six-string knows it is difficult to master.
Add six more strings and hope your fingers have wings.
Dennis Bolten''s seem to. As he picks his way through
this completely original album, a fresh sound surfaces.
Playing with old folk sounds and new resonances,
Bolten''s music frolics through the eardrums.

"Slipstream" is versatile. As Miles Davis explored the
boundaries of jazz, Dennis Bolten stretches the edges of
folk guitar. He explores new rhythms and discordances.
The song titles describe the sounds with a playful
imagination. The trudgingly delicate "Little Broken
Flowers," and the cheerful "Big Nick''s Hornet
Roundup," coincide with the musically bendy
"Rubberneck," and the big cat stretch song "That Cat
Thing," to create a fun, descriptive musical tale.
