Artist/CD Information

Relics 1993-1997 captures Lothlorien''s ''best of''. With 3 past albums in one, lothlorien have decided to pick their favourites for you. With multiple instrumentalists and multiple members, the line-up shifted and defined itself between 1993 and 1997, and in the latter years defining their sound as a five piece. In 2004, Lothlorien re''emerged with the beautiful album ''Saqi''. ''Relics'' includes Tracey Tan (violin), Maya Ward (flute, recorder), Jean Paul (fretless bass), Nic Morrey (12 string and vocals), and Geoff Senz (drums/percussion) and many more artists including Polly Christie and Julia Messenger (backing vocals), Michelle Lewitt (violin) Cam Shelton (bass)and Myf Turpin (keys) and the still current original drummers, Carl Pannuzzo and Erin Sulman.

In creating this complex tapestry of sound, Lothlorien’s main influences include Donovan, The Incredible String Band, Andreas Vollenweider, Dead Can Dance and Peter Gabriel. When you cross all this with Lothlorien’s variety of instruments and mystical lyrical content, the sound is unique and unlike any folk music you might come across. Drawing on the increasingly multicultural nature of Australia, the members of the band are also unique in character, energy and presentation. They will often dress in costume, taking their listener on a bard’s journey such as Celtic harp accompanying spoken word as introduction to the most recent compositions.

Lothlorien survive on festival performances and sell their CDs independently. They are proud to have sold the most CDs out of 350 acts on their first appearance at Woodford, Australia’s biggest folk festival. They have been repeatedly invited back, always selling within the top 10. To back up the band’s environmental message, they are proud to donate a percentage of CD sales (so far donating over $6000) to either the Australian Bush Heritage Fund https://www.tradebit.com or towards the planting of trees on festival sites visited by Lothlorien.

Lothlorien have recently collated the best of their past into 1 CD called ‘Relics 1993-1997’, capturing their history for new listeners to enjoy. Their latest CD ‘Saqi’ was released in Jan 2006. CDs are now available on-line including Nic Morrey’s solo works. Feel free to visit the website to listen to samples off each album.
