Leonard King was born in Detroit, Michigan where he has been able to absorb the multi-cultural musics of the entire metro area. He has performed with many artists such as Donald Byrd, Johnnie Taylor, Al Green, Herb Ellis, Barbara Dane, Eddie Kendricks, Pigmeat Markham, James Carter, and many others.
He''s a drummer/vocalist/arranger who is totally interested in learning music withour adhering to the limitations of genre confinement. Currently he tours around the world with saxophonist James Carter and is a member of the Southpaw Isle Steel Band, in addition to fronting his own groups such as Oopapada, and the Visger Road Drums Band.
"Big Fahrenheit In Detroit" contains the fourth and fifth CD''s to be issued by Oopapada featuring Dr. Prof. Leonard King on Uuquipleu Records (pronounced yoo-kee-pleu). The title itself stems from the summer of 2001 in Detroit with record heat temperatures during the two days it took to record all of the material contained in this double CD(this group doesn''t mess around in the studio). The decision was made to release all of the material as a double-CD and the results have been very rewarding due to the support from all of the group''s fans. The emphasis here features good-time party music, high-energy rock, and thick swingin'' jazz in a drums/vocals, organ, guitar combination.
