Creatively encompasses all-things rock

14 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
In a world where rock music has become stale and predictable, Yesterday’s News has proven themselves the exception. With their sophomore album, Yesterday''s News continues to bridge the gap between generations, innovatively combining influences ranging from soul, country and folk rock, and delving into the realms of punk, glam, and Americana.

Starting in the summer of 2005, Yesterday’s News headed back into the studio, this time recording in Woodstock, New York at the home and studio of the legendary drummer and singer for The Band, Levon Helm. The finished result, ‘The North Side Hotel’, showcases every member of the band at there best, playing with determination and heart that is evident on every track.

The 14 tracks on the album illustrate Yesterday’s News’ penchant for taking elements from their idols and adding adrenaline to keep up with the fast-paced world of 2007.

With each song, the band showcases their versatility. Three distinct lead vocalists and three different styles of song writing are revealed through out the 50 plus minutes of music. Exceptional instrumental flexibility is demonstrated with drummer Mike Koehler’s mandolin performance, and keyboardist Eddie Lehwald’s trombone and trumpet playing.

Not only does the group deliver with it’s original music, but two cuts on the album illustrate the group’s influences with a cover of the Four Tops’ classic “Lovin’ You (is sweeter than ever)” and a blistering rendition of The Band’s “The Shape I’m In”. With the added bonus of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Garth Hudson’s appearance on the beautifully composed “Play it Slowly”, this is an album that any true fan of Rock and Roll can’t miss.

Every lyric, solo, beat and measure on ‘The North Side Hotel’ has been crafted to not only fit in with the music of legends, but surpass it. So sit back and listen as these four young gunslingers, grit their teeth and reminds us why, not long ago, the world fell in love with rock and roll.
