Redux definitely ‘punches its weight’ so if you need some two-dimensional ‘extreme’ musical identity to hang your hat or baggy pants on, look elsewhere friend.

Buzzard Song is the nom-de-whatever of Eric von Radics. Inspired by the Gershwin composition that opens the Miles Davis/Gil Evans classic Porgy and Bess, E’s songs too, are often concerned with the disenfranchised and written in ‘their’ voices.

Much of it was quixotically crafted in the back rooms and offices of MUSICHEAD, a funky independent music shop that has barely allowed Eric to not take a ‘real’ job for nearly fifteen years. It’s located in the Rogue Valley, which is intersected by I-5 20 minutes north of the Oregon/California border, a place that to many of its residents feels like the lush, lovely precise geographic center of nowhere. This album is in many ways about that place, it’s people and culture, so if you like country music but are sick of exaggerated southern accents and the Nashville machine it might interest you.

Likewise, if the ‘rock’ music available for mass consumption, with it’s self-pitying scream-y guilt, self-loathing and rage bores and aggravates you, here is respite for your weary ears and sensibilities. This is music for the clear-eyed but compassionate with elements of wistfulness, gentle humor, and a sense of fun mixed in with its classic rock discontent.

With a line-up that included E’s brother Von, Chris Micca of. Little Mascara, John Maxwell of Eye Protection and the Sin Eaters, and Radim Zenkl, the Buzzard show rubbed shoulders with many Bay Area luminaries in the early 90’s. Talented singer-songwriters like Penelope Houston, Carol Denney, Jim Bruno for example. They were often compared to the Red House Painters and the American Music Club. Dupes of their long out of print, live to digital 2-track material, presented as ‘Son of Jefe’ are available free with purchase of “Redux” for a limited time. (Email requests to abuzzardsong@https://www.tradebit.com). In former band incarnations Eric shared bills with Chuck Prophet (Green on Red), Chris Isaak, Lone Justice, and band members with Primus, and Thin White Rope among others.

Craig Mesco, Allan Crutcher, Tammy Gallardo, Michael Brown, Jeff and Michelle Zundel, Elizabeth von Radics, Jym Harris, Doug Hill, Bob Pagano, Evren Groknar and John Maxwell all contributed mightily to Redux.
