The Rosenbergs began about six years ago when singer/ guitarist David Fagin placed another in a never-ending series of ads in the village voice looking for a bass player. He was playing with a drummer at the time who would later say "it''s been six months and we''re not signed yet, I''m outta here." This became the attitude of more than a few of the musicians who would come and go as the stakes got higher and the risks became more "lifestyle threatening" (more on that later). David called back one of the messages on his answering machine and was greated by a female voice. "Is Evan Silverman home?" he asked. "No, he''s not, this is his mother," the woman responded, and from there she proceded to tell David what a terrific kid her son was, what great potential he had as a bass player, and how David would be nuts not to give him a shot! Well, after such a unique and humorous conversation, how could he not? On the other hand, Evan retorts that David''s ad was littered with lies about a pending record deal and tour support, which David doesn''t deny. "I stretched every contact to make the group sound as interesting as possible. Would you answer an ad that says, ''Loser wanted by fellow loser for pop band?''"

The first incantations of The Rosenbergs started playing dives around New York City around 1995. But the rehearsing and gigging took its toll, it became quite obvious to David and Evan that the other guys in the band didn''t really know the meaning of the word "dedicated." "This is the biggest hurdle to overcome, as any artist trying to put a band together can attest to," notes Fagin, "trying to find four guys who get along well enough to spend sixteen hours a day cramped in a glove compartment on wheels, and who are talented enough to challenge and respect each other musically." After many years of searching, David and Evan believe they''ve got it right; snagging Joe Darone and Joe Mahoney of the now defunct pop punk band The Fiendz to play drums and guitars. Their first release that didn''t sound like a train wreck (thanks to the production of Dan Iannuzzelli), was 1999''s Ameripop (Pomonasounds), in support of which The Rosenbergs toured England twice last year on their own dime.

As a result of the attention brought on by the Farmclub situation, David was asked to speak on the artist panel at the Internet Music Expo in New York alongside of Chuck D, Jerry Harrison and Tina Weymouth and Bob Ezrin. It was there that he was spotted by Robert Fripp and David Singleton. It''s rumored that they approached him by saying, "We don''t even need to hear your music, from what you''ve just said up there, you''re the right band for us." The following day, Fripp came to the studio and presented the band with his idea of "artist control" to which the band completely agreed with... the rest could be history.
