Biography - Brandon Strickland

Growing up in the small town of Sopchoppy, Florida has influenced Brandon in many ways. Whether it was jamming at the local café on Saturday night, playing acoustic sessions on the front porch, listening to the local bands or reflecting on the gospel music that his family so readily sings on Sunday mornings, he has found that music is a way to pour out his soul.
" There is something very magical about writing and performing music that can ease pain, create sadness, or soothe the worried mind and I thank God for giving me a talent that can do all of these things for me," stated Brandon.
Only five short years ago did he pick up the guitar and learn to play. He found his mother''s old guitar gathering dust in the closet and just started playing around with it. Brandon quickly discovered that it came easily to him. At the same time that he was teaching himself to play, he found that words and rhythms flowed into his head fast and furiously. At first, his songs were simple ballads that consisted of his childhood experiences growing up in a small southern town. Brandon became an instant success with his family and friends as they enjoyed hearing the humorous stories of his youth put to music. Brandon''s writing quickly became serious in the last month before he graduated high school when his best friend tragically passed away before his eyes. This was a turning point in Brandon''s life that led to a very sad graduation. " If it had not been for my music, faith, family and friends, I really do not know what would have become of me," Brandon revealed. Brandon began to pour his heart and soul into his music. Writing and performing songs took on a whole new meaning. Lyrics began to flow into his head and out of his heart as his inner feelings were being expressed in his music. As he poured out his soul, he began to heal. "Music was my escape." He''s been on a roll ever since. Brandon''s songs are filled with passion, joy, love, of things that have passed and things to come. His music is REAL and down-to-earth, like the young man he is. Brandon admits that no matter what becomes of his songwriting career, he will always write for himself.
Brandon is currently a twenty -year -old sophomore pursing a college degree. In addition to his passion for writing and performing music, he also loves to surf. Surfing is a pure release for Brandon just as writing songs and performing his music. Brandon compares his love for surfing to his love for writing and performing. "They are very similar in the fact that both surfing and writing music takes skill, talent, practice and luck"
Brandon plays several instruments including acoustic and electric guitar, drums, trombone, and is currently learning to play the harmonica. Brandon admits that his ultimate dream would be to write and perform music, travel the world, ride the waves, and someday be known as a great songwriter. Although at first impression, he may seem quiet and shy, he is extremely passionate about the things he loves.
Brandon currently records his music digitally in a studio in which he founded, Barefoot Studio. In the early part of 2003, he independently wrote, engineered, produced, and performed all music on his own CD, "There''s Still Time". Currently the CD has sold multiple copies throughout the panhandle area. "This project was a major learning experience for me", admitted Brandon, " In the few short months since I released my CD, I have learned many things. My music is definitely growing and changing with me." Brandon is currently putting the finishing touches on his next CD, destined to be his best work yet.
This young musician is serious and light-hearted, focused, yet still fun-loving, complex and simple, classic and trendy. His music spans generations. He loves his craft and will continue to practice it. Brandon credits his family, friends and most of all God for giving him this talent and would like to thank you for the opportunity to perform.
