Details:
Shadows of Eden, a progressive metal band, was formed in 2003 by Dan White. Dan White started his
career as a lead guitarist and co-songwriter for Spiritual Meaning, a classic Doom Metal band. Spiritual
Meaning had a huge following with a wide range of fans. Unfortunately, Spiritual Meaning was plagued with
internal disputes and disbanded in 2001. Mentally frustrated and tired from the constant struggle of being in
Spiritual Meaning, burned out from the monotonous b.s. that had become the “Metal Scene,” Dan put away his
guitar for the next 2 years.

In 2003 Dan was inspired to start playing again. With a fresh new outlook and an excitement he hadn’t felt in
years, he wrote an entire concept album. "Dance of The Gypsies" was born. Next, he would need the perfect
name for this project. Dan had wanted to use the name Shadows of Eden for years, the time to use it had
finally arrived. Knowing that this would be a new era, he decided to take his time and find the right musicians
to help him bring this project to life.

Jim Newlon was the first to join Shadows of Eden; he had answered an ad that Dan had placed in the local
newspaper. After auditioning a number of drummers and being woke up in the middle of the night by a drunk
playing a drum solo and screaming “I am the only drummer you’ll ever need” on the answering machine, Dan
received a phone call from a very professional sounding musician who requested an audition. Jim showed up
to the audition early and played on Dan’s 12 piece Pearl drum set. Even though Jim was playing on a foreign
drum set, he was playing very solid and articulate. After discussing their influences and finding that they had a
lot of respect for each other, Jim joined the band.

Jim Gossau was the next to join the fold as the vocalist for Shadows of Eden. Dan had thought that finding
a drummer would be difficult, but he soon realized that finding the right singer would be hell. After 20 or 30
auditions, Dan was starting to become worried. He had auditioned some singers that would make perfect
death metal vocalists; this was not the direction he wanted to go. Dan decided to give Jim, an old friend and
fellow musician, a call to see if he knew of any vocalist that would be interested in joining Shadows of Eden.
Jim, who was playing guitar and singing in a band called Livewyre, said that he couldn’t think of anyone at that
time, but he would give Dan a call if he came across anyone. Dan who was a little bummed out, but not
discouraged, jokingly asked Jim if he was interested in singing. To Dan’s surprise, Jim said that he had some
down time with Livewyre and that he wouldn’t mind helping out. After working on the first E.P. and becoming
close friends with Dan, Jim decided to join Shadows of Eden full time as a vocalist. Jim is currently working
with both bands full time.

After searching for the right person to play bass and having no luck at all, Dan decided to start recording
the first half of the concept album and release it as an E.P. with him playing bass. That would help cut cost and
get a feel for people’s reaction to Shadows of Eden and their diverse style. Dance of The Gypsies Pt. 1 was
released in 2005. The album received a very good response and gained a healthy following. The single for the
album, “Souls of Fire,” was broadcast across the world on various radio stations reaching as high as the top
10 and top 20. Dance of the Gypsies Pt. 1 had positive reviews from Magazines and webzines from around the
world as well.

In 2006 during the recording of “Dance of the Gypsies Pt. 2,” Jim Newlon left the band, due to personal
problems. Shadows of Eden came to a halt and the release of “Dance of the Gypsies Pt. 2” was delayed for
several months. A long time friend, Chad Wood, volunteered to help finish the album and eventually agreed to
join the band full time. Chad performed very well under the pressure of learning and recording the material for
the new album, considering the short amount of time he had to learn it. The new album was finished in
February of 2007.

Jessie Nichols had joined Shadows of Eden as the bass player in late 2006. While attending a barbeque
and get together at Chad’s house, Jessie had expressed some strong interest in trying out for Shadows of
Eden. Dan and Jim Gossau who had seen Jessie play in various other bands over the years, discussed the
idea and thought it would be a good idea to give Jessie an audition. Jessie proved to be a very skillful and
competent bass player. Jessie joined Shadows of Eden and is featured on the new album, “Dance of the
Gypsies Pt. 2.” This concludes the newest chapter in the history of Shadows of Eden.
