Details:
It’s not often in these days of syrupy pop and vacuous celebrity-ism that you come across a band that is just interested in making real rock & roll. Throwback Suburbia is such a band. Endeavoring to create the kind of sound that modern pop-rock is missing by blending pop melodies and intelligent lyrics with a rock & roll attitude, Throwback Suburbia have managed to capture the essence of retro-pop and make it modern rock.

Throwback Suburbia was brought to life in late 2005 by Mike Collins (drums) and Jimi Evans (guitar & vocals) from the ashes of a former band. Once Eric French (bass) and Paul Bond (guitar) were on board, the boys started to make rock magic. Based in Portland, Oregon, home of rock acts The Shins and The Decemberists , Throwback Suburbia are the archetypal power-pop group, and in their sound you can hear their many influences: Queen, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Jellyfish, Cheap Trick, as well as British invasion bands such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Kinks.

Since their first gig in February 2006 and the simultaneous release of their debut EP Eight Tracks, their neo-power pop sound has attracted a lot of attention and an astonishing number of accolades. Four of Throwback Suburbia’s songs, “Circles, “All About Me”, “Starting Over”, and “The Ride”, have been in the top ten at https://www.tradebit.com simultaneously. “Starting Over” and “The Ride” stayed in the top ten for more than six months. Throwback Suburbia played the International Pop Overthrow festival in August 2006, and the band has been recording with world famous producers Mark Plati (David Bowie, The Cure, Brazilian Girls) and Tom McKay (Joydrop, Hey Gravity) - aka The Macchiato Kids - and mastering legend Greg Calbi (The Strokes, Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer). Mark and Tom are currently shopping Throwback Suburbia to record labels and management companies both in the US and the UK.

Throwback Suburbia have been playing to packed houses, and been featured in many West Coast magazines, including Performer Magazine and Two Louie’s. And most recently their new track “Watching You Fade” has been receiving airplay on Portland’s #1 rock station, 94.7 KNRK.

They have been the feature band for https://www.tradebit.com “Band of the Week”, A.L. Harper wrote that “Throwback Suburbia’s sound has energy, conscience and style, setting it above the rest of the pack.” https://www.tradebit.com declared “high-energy, highly melodic sound.” The band has even received feedback from some of their rock idols. “I’m a big fan”, says Eric Dover of Jellyfish. David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick says “The new stuff is WAY cool." James Guffee of The Tories "Throwback Suburbia sounds awesome!" And Gregg Williams-producer of The Dandy Warhols "The new stuff is really great!"

If you should find yourself having trouble locating a pulse in today’s music, Throwback Suburbia is a true testament to rock & roll being alive and well.
