Details:
Pam Pierce. Air Force “Brat”. “Aggie” (Texas A&M ’79 Graduate). U.S. Forest Service Firefighter. Ski Bum- Party Girl during the Crazy ‘80’s. Housewife and Mother of a teenage son and 11-year-old twin daughters. Care-giver to the Elderly. Singer? Believe It—Pam Pierce Sings!
Her sweet and sexy, lilting and melodic voice is capturing increasing attention in her hometown of Steamboat Springs and further into the state of Colorado. Pam’s debut release, Believe It, is a fresh mix of both up-beat and mellow “new standards” from the ‘30’s to the ‘80’s, a half-century of hits that have been loved for years but, in most cases, under-recorded.
“We wanted to feature songs that aren’t being ‘loved to death’, those that so many artists have been covering over and over again these days”, she explains.
From the “vocalese” of Farmer’s Market to a swingy version of the ‘70’s hit, Until You Come Back to Me, this singer’s voice soars. Her take on Billy Strayhorn’s Lush Life is as haunting as it is beautiful. The familiar becomes new again with every song on this C.D.
Pam’s musical biography makes for an unusual and interesting story. “I’ve always been a singer and was told again and again what a nice voice I have”, she says. Years of working with the elderly gave frequent opportunities to earn these compliments. “I’m always singing and humming as I help care for these lovely people. They’ve been some of my best encouragement.”
Recently, however, encouragement and opportunity to expand into true performing have grown “exponentially”, as Pam puts it, especially since meeting Paul Potyen, her accompanist, arranger and producer for Believe It.
“It’s only been a couple of years since I broke away from strictly singing in choruses and small groups; when I decided to really see where my voice could take me,” she remembers. “I was gaining the courage to perform as a solo vocalist just as I met Paul. It was my huge good fortune to gain a musical relationship with such a great talent, especially in a small town like Steamboat Springs.”
At 49, Pam realizes it’s a rather late start to begin a career in music. But, she says, “Since 40 is the new 30, then subtract the 10 years I stop-motioned my life to have a LOT of fun, I’m really just now 29!” she jokes. “ Besides”, she says, “you just gotta do things when the time is right. It’s all you can do with your life.” The title of her C.D. comes from the motto that says it all for Pam: Conceive it. Believe it. Achieve it.
Luckily for Pam, her husband Ed and their three children, Oren, Abbey and Rachel have always believed in her. Earlier inspiration came from her mother, Adele, whose death four years ago was a catalyst in her decision to overcome her fears and share her voice with others. “My Mother was always telling me, ‘Pam, you need to sing!’. I think she’d be very happy to know I finally took her advice”.
Now let’s see what you think.
