Details:
With their self-titled debut album, Yesterday''s News has developed a set of songs that, on every level, is equal to any original music around.
Yesterday''s News is Dave Chrismer (bass), Jamie Green (guitar), Mike Koehler (drums/lead vocal), and Eddie Lehwald (piano/organ). Though the members of the band are barely 20 years old, there is a certain maturity in their musicianship. Clearly, they are a capable, cohesive band.
YESTERDAY''S NEWS is a straight-forward rock album. The album borrows qualities from many styles of music within the rock genre, but never strays too far from its center. Elements of hard rock ("Happy Ending" "Better off Dead"), southern rock ("Graffiti on the Wall"), and reggae ("Four Right Turns") exist. "Scene From a Movie," "Dead, Dying, and Deceased" and "The Lion''s Den" are all riff-catchy-chorus numbers that help give the album a mainstream appeal. "Two More Weeks" is a showcase for Koehler and Lehwald, while Chrismer gets his moment with "You''re Not for Me."
At first listen, YESTERDAY''S NEWS features great melodies and vocals, solid rhythm, and terrific musicianship. However upon more listening, the lyrics begin to gain importance. Songwriter Green crafts an album that makes sense within their style of music. The theme is of a loss. The loss is of something pure, something once well-respected, but has now succumbed to certain surroundings.
If you are a fan of older rock and haven''t come across a band that you can latch onto, Yesterday''s News is the band and this is the album for you.
