Details:
Boyne City, Michigan native Erik VanHorn just can’t make up his damn mind. One minute he’s shredding a guitar solo, and the next he’s singing a thoughtful ballad. The one constant of his live show, however, is that it’s always entertaining. VanHorn is no stranger to the stage; in the last eight years he’s won the Festival Con Dios talent competition, performed showcases for New York and Nashville record executives, and played an exclusive after-party for the legendary Grand Funk Railroad. In addition, he’s honed his composition skills at the J.D. Lamb Retreat for Songwriters, which opened doors to play gigs with Grammy Award Winner Barbara Bailey Hutchinson and singer-songwriter Josh White, Jr. In Fall 2006, VanHorn began work on his first solo album, Brother''s Medicine. The 14 genre-bending songs blend blues, R&B, jazz fusion, funk, blue grass, and classic singer-songwriter fare. VanHorn’s goal was to produce an honest, passionate record. Raw, emotional cuts like "Girls Cry," "Julia" and "No Way Else" are offset by the up-tempo, sly grooves of "Shaken," "Earthstew" and "Catfish." The album was recorded in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and is the best musical self-portrait VanHorn has ever assembled.
