I am a jazz pianist by trade, but have had many requests for my style of playing to be put in a meditative setting. There are seven tracks on this CD, the first five of which are completely improvised, about ten minutes each. The last two are short compositions, including the title track, Heart First.
It has been my life''s practice to become a fluent improviser in the jazz tradition. However, the language of jazz can often alienate listeners not accustomed to its colors and textures. The challenge of this recording was to create moods and moments that were not too jazzy, but jazz influenced, and not too new-age, but suitable for meditation. I believe I''ve met this challenge, and invite you to enjoy the music I''ve created.
