I am from Kehewin, Alberta, Canada and belong to the Plains Cree Tribe and currently propoting our first compilation CD. I am pleased to say I began as a performer in the Art field and branch out toward including the Aboriginal Dance Theatre Company.
Hello and welcome, to “Eagle 1 Has Landed” a Compilation CD, of songs that I have composed for our round dance demonstration portion of our Native dance troupe and for social dance purposes. We are a Native produced and run dance theatre troupe and have performed around the world, presenting our traditionl stories and dances.
This CD highlights the Round Dance style and includes a contemporary track and the Family Song performed by other members of our company. The round dance style is a dance done mainly in the winter months. We host indoor dances because of the bitter cold northern canadian winters.
The round dance is a dance made for participation and these songs sung are about renewal and celebration. We sing about what comes from the heart. Songs are composed to celebrate for example a wedding, new friendships and songs to commemorate a loved one.
While you listen and enjoy the round dances and pow wow song, you’ll notice that the songs has four verses and the song ends on the 4th verse. Just like the 4 seasons in 1 year, it must go through the 4 seasons to complete itself. Our Elders often tell us that the sound of the drums is the sound of the heart beat of Mother Earth.
In keeping with tradition I would like to invite you to enjoy the Round Dance Beat and sing along if your heart desires or dance along with us in the circle.
