Harry Watson started design ideas for a 9 string midi bass guitar that he wanted to use to compose for all instruments. Teaming up with vocalist Leo Sherlock the next year, the duo began writing, recording, and performing their unique blend of modern rock together. Recording this cd with just Leo''s vocals and Harry playing 9 string bass for ALL parts (guitars, drums, bass, and keyboard sounds) became "Catherine Street". Now being managed by Greg Martin, son of Sir George Martin, the duet has grown into a quintet and is performing Watson & Sherlock''s compositions live in New York City, as an energetic live band. With extreme drummer, Ben Orick, virtuoso Brian Keeler on lead guitar, and pro bassist John Carey holding down the low end, they''ve already garnered an excellent following. On this disc, Watson is uniquely using the 9 string bass to play baritone/tenor rhythm parts, bass parts, effects, and solos, while Sherlock''s smooth voice floats through and above the mix, conveying the angst, melancholy, or joy of the particular song. The goal of the band is to convey the intensity of the emotions in the songs, communicate their passion for music to the audience, and hopefully rock out a bit.

Watson describes the project this way: "These songs were all born out of our passion and love for music, inspired by the people around us and a desire to share the way we experience such powerful subjective ideas as desire, loss, unrequited love, error, shame, pleasure, dreams, guilt, anger, acceptance, lust, joy, pain, sorrow, and continual creation and rejection of morals and mores. For me, the compositions (both lyrically and musically) are an attempt at a phenomenological method of understanding these experiences, my world, and my being. That is, it''s a descriptive method of art managing to employ many modern musical motifs (yeah, annoying attempt at alliteration, I know...), and designed to strip away our normal way of experiencing the world and find a more natural way of reawakening a more basic experience of it. Plus, it functions as a dionysian aesthetic. But then again, I could be making all of that up. Perhaps it''s just a desire to do something that gets us lots of chicks and some free beer along the way.
(Maybe they''re the same thing. Who knows?)"
