Details:
The Antecedents are an indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. After playing local venues together for two years they recorded their debut album, “Letters from Rome”, released in April 2007. The band strives to create diverse music, which is both distinct and moving. Their music includes catchy pop-rock songs with a punk literary edge, contemplative lyrical storytelling, trip-rock, apocalyptic ballads and poetry interpreted as indie-rock.
The band relies on well-crafted songs and a collaborative creative process to bring their ideas from concept to performance. The band members are all influenced by classic rock such as David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and Queen but each member also brings a unique musical influence to the overall sound. The jazz influenced guitar and composition of Devan Kansagara, the contemporary rock influence of bassist Jason Lander, the classical training of violinist Clinton Christensen and the Americana/folk music tradition of singer Joe Landry, all strongly influence the overall sound of the band.
When available, the Antecedents work with an ensemble of musicians for live performances. They value the community created by music and are also enthusiastically involved in their local and global community. A portion of the proceeds from their debut album will be donated to the Wallace Medical Center, which provides healthcare for Oregon’s uninsured. The band is also scheduled to perform regularly for Amnesty International’s Rock4Rights – NW, a new non-profit organization promoting and raising funds for human rights and international justice.
