Dayna Lynn has been compared to many great musician in the history of jazz and soul music: from Ella Fitzgerald to Nina Simone, and Stevie Wonder. Like those artists, her music transcends the lines of genre and style, manifesting as jazz with a big spoonful of soul. But she isn''t so quick to try and separate from many of the artists who have been classified as the same. She says that "the musicians, especially black musicians, of my generation have a common experience of growing up in the church and being influenced by the gospel music there. But then, being at home and have all the great music from the 60''s and 70''s being imprinted onto our musical memory on a regular basis."
Backed up by lush harmonies, Dayna Lynn''s lyrics span a wide variety of subject matter including traditional love songs and socially motivated anthems. Dayna Lynn believes that good music is often wasted on bad lyrics. She says, "My goal is to keep a high level of integrity on both ends, never compromising good music for a whack lyric and visa versa." She wants her listeners to hear quality music when popping in her album. "All things have a way of getting into your spirit and I just want to make sure that I deposit jewels into the spirits of other people, not trash," she adds.
